The Click Start computer taeches essential skills for school and allows critical thinking. The wireless keyboard gives the child a realistic sense of an actual computer key board. The colourful keys are printed with letters and numbers boldly, and the child sized mouse is very easy to navigate. Additional software is available which allows children to learn with characters they enjoy. Letters, numbers, shapes, phonics, rhyming, word-building, sequencing and matching skills are learnt through this instructional software. The sotware provides functions such as tutorials, drill and practice, problem-solving and instructional games. This system is well suited for the home environment as it connects to the television, allowing the child to learn in their comfort and at their convenience.

STUDENT CENTERED CLASSROOMS

We have all heard the phrase "the student-centered classroom." The term in the new age of teaching and tecnology is considered a"best practice" and how we can best serve our pupils. But what does this term actually mean ? It is about giving more decision making oppotunites to the studnets. It seems to be wrapped up in the idea of teachers becoming less "the sage on the stage" and more of " the guide on the side." This practice can be seen at our new ECCE Centres, which has now become part of my destiny, as it is my dream to become an adminstrator at one of these centres at the end of my journey at UTT. This practice I believe should be used through out our school system. Look into it, and tell me what you think!

JOLLY LEARNING

This funfilled learning experience is presently being promoted by our ministry of education, and used in our primary schools. It contributes to the foundation of reading and writing. This programme focuses on the five basic skills of reading and writing that is: letter sounds, letter formation, blending, identifying sounds in words and spelling tricky words. These skills are taught in an enjoyable multisensory way. There is a wide range of products that can be used to facilitate learning such as CD-ROMS, DVD'S, books, charts, games, puppets workbooks and whiteboards. In my previous teaching experience students enjoyed doing actions that were taught with the sounds of letters and were able to sound words and read fluently. This is definitely a great programme.

Early Language Development

In an ever growing, advanced, competitive world parents are ensuring that their children get a head start academically. One of the main areas that great focus has been placed on is early language development. Your Baby Can Read is a popular educational software that seems to have accomplish the goal of early language development for many households. This software has been promoted as a window of opportunity to enhance your child's learning ability and allow them to communicate effectively early in life. So, how does it work? The child sees and hears the word at the same time, then, the child hears the word again while seeing the meaning of the word, and is also allowed to do actions that relate to the word. Were these children first taught how to recognise letters and their sound, is this the ideal basis for early language development? Well I personally believe that these children are learning by rote.
